Flipping through the cable channels, it is easy to see any one of the reality shows scurrying to meet a deadline or joining forces to overcome some obstacle to get the project completed. Anyone that has done work on a car can attest that issues crop up with unwarranted frequency. That’s what probably makes the “build a car in 30 minutes or less” type of shows so relatable to car guys.
Now, imagine doing TWO projects with a deadline! That’s exactly what Man Made Legends is doing in preparation for the upcoming Charlotte Auto Fair, being held this September 22-25. This ’69 Camaro Resto-Mod and a ’32 Roadster will be unveiled at the event on the 23rd, so they must be ready for prime-time well in advance to work out any bugs that might surface in the finishing touches. To add to the specific finishing date, both cars are subjects for an upcoming documentary that will highlight each car’s build in detail as they transform from projects to perfect in less than a year.
The first project, and the one we’ll focus on for this installment, is a full-bodied affair with the classic lines of a ’69 Camaro. But those lines will be far from factory once the team at Man Made Legends gets done with them. The list of body mods to this car consist of narrowing and tucking the front and rear bumpers into the body, shaving and extending all body panel gaps and shaving all marker lights and key holes.
Man Made Legends also deleted multiple body seams around the car to give it a sleeker cleaner look, finishing off the exterior with a one-off, hand-made steel rear spoiler and wiper cowl. The car will remain unmistakable ’69 Camaro, but incorporate mods that bring it into the 21st Century.
Many of those modifications will be found under the massaged metal of this fabulous F-body. For starters, a new Chevrolet Performance LS3 crate engine and 4L70E automatic transmission will give the car plenty of power when on the move. While moving, the ride will be enhanced with a full TCI tube-chassis loaded with polished stainless suspension components and the power transferred through a 9-inch differential out back.
Inside the car, the modern amenities continue, with a one-off custom black leather interior and a modern cut-pile carpet from Auto Custom Carpets. Custom, hand-crafted center console, door panels, and one-piece headliner finish off the soft-touch items. Modern electronics is a must, so the craftsmen at MML have added a Viper keyless entry alarm system with remote start and a “Hot Dot” push to start system loaded with the RFID security key fob from Watson’s StreetWorks.
Watson’s helped modernize the functionality of other parts of the interior with a set of billet power window switches, billet push-button switches and billet indicator lights. Adding a killer stereo system to the mix will help take the driving experience up another level.
If you want to see both of these two cars completed, be sure to check them out at the Charlotte Auto Fair. Or, you can see even more of them once they hit the small-screen later this year. Check back and we’ll be sure to let you know when and where you can do just that!
