Over the last several years, the folks at Afco Racing have enjoyed a strong presence in the drag racing suspension-parts market — the company’s products ride underneath some of the heaviest hitters in the racing world, like “First To The Threes” Radial versus. The World racer Brad Edwards and others. In conjunction with the internal engineering efforts of the shock engineers within the Afco fold, the company has set out to release a brand-new quartet of double adjustable drag racing struts for the late-model Mustang and Camaro platforms.

“Last year we started offering a double adjustable strut for the 1979-’04 Mustang,” says Afco’s Eric Saffell. “We took the same basic internal platform of valving components and we’ve started offering it for the 2005-’14 Mustang — they are revalvable and rebuildable if necessary. So now we can cover the Mustang from 1979 through 2014.”

But it’s not just double adjustable Mustang struts that the company had on display — they also have the same basic design now available for 2010-’15 Camaro strut style, and also filled in the catalog with the third-gen (1982-’93) Camaro strut design. Each of these new designs are tested on the shock dyno before being boxed for shipment to assure consistency and reliability in the field.

There is a standard part number with a range of adjustment that fits the majority of cars out there, but cars on either end of the horsepower spectrum can most likely make use of a different valving range. These can be spec’d out with the help of Afco’s tech department and are available with a 48-hour turnaround time. New caster/camber plate designs are also available for 1979-’14 Mustang and 2010-’14 Camaro.

“With all of the power adder classes out there, we’re finding that the ability to offer a lot of valving options has been very popular for us,” says Saffell. “We do an awful lot of tech support, get to a lot of racetracks, work with a lot of race teams, and collect a lot of data.”

The late-model Mustang and both Camaro designs will be available on February 1, 2016 for shipment. All of these struts are direct-fit and designed for drag racing, although Saffell says they are right at home on the street as well.

“We’ve done the FEA analysis to determine that these are absolutely durable enough to take the potholes in the worst cities out there. I absolutely would not shy away from putting these onto a street car. We can provide recommendations for set-up starting points on the adjustment. We can go from cars and coffee to the dragstrip in one day,” sums up Saffell.
