During the 1960’s and early 70’s, millions of American muscle cars were built here in the good ol’ U.S.A. Mustangs, Camaros, and Barracudas were cranked out 24 hours a day, seven days a week (OK, not really, as the AUW would have a cow). Of course, this was a time when you could custom order every feature on your car, leading to some engine and body style combinations that would prove to be incredibly rare and desirable down the road.

Perhaps the Holy Grail of rare muscle cars is the 1970 HEMI ‘Cuda convertible, of which just 14 were ever produced. Now, according to Hemmings Auto Blog, one of these extremely desirable vehicles will be heading to auction come January.

1970 was the peak year for muscle cars, with the biggest and best engines dropped into some of the sexiest car designs ever conceived. For Mopar fans, no car better represents this than the HEMI ‘Cuda. Plenty of these cars were built in the 1970 model year, and yet just 14 HEMI-powered ‘Cudas were ordered as drop tops. We’re not sure why, but this very limited number of convertible ‘Cuda’s made them extremely desirable collectors items down the road.

This particular car reportedly has just 19,000 miles on the odometer, and yet has still undergone a complete restoration. It is also one of just nine HEMI ‘Cuda convertibles with an automatic transmission and has been loaded with almost every option, from power steering and windows to the Rallye gauge package. A few years ago these cars were worth anywhere from $1 million to $1.4 million, though in today’s economic climate, it might not bring quite that much. This particular car is heading to the Russo and Steele auction come January. As far as muscle cars go, they don’t get much better, or rarer, than this.
