America has never been fond of communism, and the idea of a communist-built car didn’t sit well with a lot of people despite the $3,990 starting price and a 10-year/100,000 mile warranty. Some blamed the bland styling, others blamed the under-powered 1100 cc engine, and others blamed the lack of quality control for shabbily-built automobiles.
In the end, they’re all right. But there is one way to make the Yugo a lot better; drop a HEMI in it. Or, at the very least, pretend to, and distract people from the fact that you’re still driving a Yugo.
The MoparBlog came across pics of this supposedly HEMI-powered Yugo, and while we hate to be the bearers of bad news, this Yugo is a fake. Notice the lack of any sort of cooling system or water pump? How about the missing exhaust system? Yup, it’s all plastic and lies unfortunately, though it’s still pretty cool.
Weighing in at under 2,000 pounds, the Yugo would actually be a great drag racing project car, and you could pull some wicked wheelies with a big V8 in the back. Of course safety was always a big issue with the Yugo, so you’ll want to invest in some serious roll cage and seat belts, another Yugo weak point. Seriously, how do you mess up seat belts?
Would you drive a “fake” car like this Yugo just for the shock value?
