Corvette As A Four-Door?

Lately, there has been talk circling around about Corvette as a brand in itself. When compared to other Chevys nowadays, Corvettes are obviously incomparable. A class of their own. With such an amazing vehicle to start with, Chevrolet would be stupid to just leave it alone– which is the main reason the Grand Sport and ZR1 exist today.

Rumors of four-door and mid-engine platforms have always been out and about but now, mid-engine rumors are running rampant, and it seems we are closer than ever to getting some of these fantastic creations on the streets.

We aren’t the only ones with these ideas, either– back in the ‘70s, California Custom Coach (CCC) was known for their Auburn Speedster replicas… until the release of their Frankenstein of a creation– the four-door Corvette. CCC stretched the C3’s body a whopping 30 inches to accommodate rear seats and additions to the targa top. They had planned on creating 10 of these babies each month but supposedly, today, there are only somewhere between 5 and 10 left in existence.

Of course, most likely none of us will be seeing any of these C3 “Fourvettes” running around the street, but that doesn’t mean we won’t be seeing any new four-door Corvettes in the future. Some claim it is definitely going to happen– it’s just a matter of when. We must say, we like this C7 version much better than the C3.

If Chevrolet manages to keep this amount of focus and this dedicated following behind the ‘Vette, we think the Corvette might deserve its very own brand sometime soon. What do you think?
