This is a story of creation. Two life-long friends teamed up to build a marque that would endure the ages. The intense build of this mighty Mopar was well documented over at Musclecarcalendar.com some ten years ago. What started out as a labor of love ended up to be more like two Dr. Frankensteins creating a monster in the form of a 1970 Challenger. With a 528ci, all aluminum Indy Hemi that cranks out 700 hp, this creation that friends Mike Mattern and Joel Parra intensely labored over would come to be known as the Evil Twin.
This was a build that would come to last well over a year. They accomplished this by laboring day and night for long stretches. They performed a laundry list of mods in a near fanatical thrash that would floor your average gearhead and they simply cannot all be listed here. The once formidable, 426 Hemi, 4-speed simply faded into the past as they backed up that Indy motor with a manually shifted, Richmond 6-speed.
From there – it was off to the races, so to speak. From the clutch to the driveshaft to the narrowed Dana 4.11s by Chuck’s Pro Street, nothing was left un-built! Front to rear – the suspension was absolutely monsterfied. Torsion bar tossed in favor of coilovers. Motor plates, ladder bars, tubs, cage and so much more would forever alter this beast. They would then proceed to bolt on a list of parts including a set of wheels and tires too monstrous to be listed here.
The Evil Twin would go on to win prestigious awards as the years unfolded. Along the way, one of the original builders would not make it. Alas, it would seem that mere, mortal men were never meant to last beyond their creations. From what we know, Joel Parra was one helluva gearhead as well as an outstanding dude all around! God speed.
The magic of mere mortals lives on and on. Sometimes their legacies remain within the creations they leave behind – for all to behold. For all of you gearheads that are worth your salt, we would appreciate a “Hell yeah!” down below, Parra put his heart into this and deserves the respect!
