Did you miss the Hot Rodders of Tomorrow Engine Challenge at the 2^nd annual Classic Auto Show? Well, don’t worry, as the competing teams can be seen at the Edelbrock Car Show in Torrence, California, on May 5. The upcoming challenge is the eighth-annual regional competition, and features local high school students from each region who will work to earn their spot to compete at the National Finals in Las Vegas at the “Showdown at SEMA” in early November.

The top teams are honored with scholarships from Ohio Technical College, University of Northwestern Ohio and the School of Automotive Machinists.

At the Classic Auto Show, 88 kids participated in the tear down and rebuild of a Briggs and Stratton engine, using only basic hand tools. In addition to teaching the kids an understanding of the internal combustion engine, the goals of the competition were to help individuals develop communications and problem-solving skills, self-esteem, and a strong work ethic.

To do so, each team had to disassemble and reassemble a small-block Chevrolet engine in under 33 minutes. First Place was taken by Team Motive Gear (Katella High School NOCROP) from Anaheim, in a time of 26:43. The Second Place team was Team Speed Pro (Rancho Alamitos High School) in Garden Grove. They completed the task in 31:05.
