Dodge has been all about special models and horsepower for the past few years, and with the introduction of the Mopar ’10 Challenger in 2010, it had enthusiasts headed to the dealer to get their limited Dodge Challenger. The same happened again in 2014, and now again for 2017 the very limited Mopar ’17 Dodge Challenger is once again having collectors count their pennies and other enthusiasts feeling like they missed out a second or third time.
The limited edition car is only available in two colors: 80 will be available in Contusion Blue and 80 will be available in Billet Silver. That’s where the differences lie, the similarities, however, are plenty. Each of the 160 Challengers will be equipped with the 392ci Hemi packing 485 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque, and will only be backed by one set of gears: the Tremec TR-6060 six-speed manual transmission.
Tremec has been the go to transmission company for Mopar, where you’ll find a six-speed unit in Challengers and Vipers, including the Hellcat models. You’ve also seen Tremec in vehicles like the Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro and Corvette, and in the aftermarket you’ll find Tremec transmission swaps in custom Pro-Touring builds competing in autocross events all over the country.
For Dodge, however, Tremec has been the chosen transmission for the Mopar ’17 Challengers, helping Mopar to celebrate 80 years as a brand. To help commemorate these limited Challengers, the Shaker Hood package by Mopar will include Shaker badging and help give these cars a unique look, mounted beneath the Pitch Black hood.
“Since its birth in 1937, Mopar has evolved from the name of an antifreeze product to a global customer-care brand,” said Pietro Gorlier, Head of Parts and Service (Mopar), FCA – Global. “The Mopar ’17 Dodge Challenger, our latest limited-edition vehicle, is a testament to this philosophy, showcasing how Mopar assists owners in personalizing all FCA US vehicles.”
Visit the Tremec Transmissions website for more information about OE and aftermarket transmissions, and if you’re interested in the limited Mopar 17 Challenger, get in line… they’ll go quick like its predecessors have.
