Outlaw Armageddon’s Invitational Class Explodes To 48 Cars For 2017

If Thunder Valley Raceway Park had a roof, last year’s edition of Outlaw Armageddon would have ripped it right off from all the great No Prep racing action. There were tons of amazing races, close calls, and huge upsets that made the once-a-year event so special. Now in 2017, Outlaw Armageddon: The Third Assault is looking to bring No Prep racing to a new level with its invitational class that was decided entirely by the fans.

Outlaw Armageddon began as an invitational race in 2015 to get those who had been street racing to line up against each other on the track. With the best No Prep racers and the stars of Street Outlaws squaring off, Thunder Valley’s Nick Duty and his team created a formula for a huge event. Now, things have taken off even more, and so a new way to give the fans a great was introduced for 2017.

“This year we decided to open the invitational field up to fan voting so they could decide who they want to see. We didn’t limit it to No Prep or street racers, and we put up $50,000 in purse money with no entry fee. The goal was to see what kind of show the fans wanted to see and give it to them,” Duty explains.

The problem arose that just having a 32-car field would leave out some heavy hitters in the No Prep world, so Duty and his partner, Mark Sorenson, leapt into action to address this. “After we started going through the list of names and saw who wasn’t going to be voted in due to the sheer volume of great cars, we knew something needed to be done. The decision was made and we added another 16 spots to make the total 48 so that fans can get the best possible show,” Duty says.

The fans took advantage of the opportunity and voted in racers like “Daddy Dave” Comstock, James “Birdman” Finney, Mike Murillo, Disco Dean, Steve Wiley, and others, to see who really is the king of No Prep. “After seeing how much the fans enjoyed voting racers in, it just made sense to let them decide who would run in the invitational class. The fans are the ones paying their money to come to the event, so we want them to get the best possible experience,” Duty explains.
