Street Feature: Chris Gibbany And Her 1974 Dodge Charger

1200-8 [1]

Chris Gibbany of Harrison, Arkansas, is a rare breed. Not only is she into vintage cars and motorcycles, but she is also a Mopar girl. We couldn’t have been more excited when she reached out and told us about her 1974 Dodge Charger.

“I was a Chevy addict,” Chris explained. “Three years ago that changed when I admitted to my husband Gabe that I wanted a Mopar.” After having more than half a dozen Camaros and Corvettes, Chris was ready to make a change.

Her love for Chevy ran deep, so deep in fact that she had made it permanent in the form of a tattoo. Permanent that is, until she had it covered with an updated design for her new passion. “In my world, when I am ‘done’, I am done, it’s just the only way I can move forward and give my present possessions my full attention,” Chris explained. “Since I had spent the first 40 years of my life loving Chevys, I figured it was time for a new chapter in my life.”

New love, new ink.

With her mind originally set on a challenger, she eventually “settled” for this 1974 Dodge Charger she found on Craigslist. The Charger may not have been her first choice, but we’d happily “settle” for this car any day! It didn’t look quite like this when Chris and her husband Gabe bought it and brought it home. “The car had been painted white, had a vinyl top that had completely rusted the roof, a blown tire had destroyed the driver’s rear quarter panel, and it had velour seats.”

It's changed a little bit since she got her hands on it.

They ended up getting a good deal on the car and walking away with their “hidden gem,” as they called it. They didn’t even realize how special it was. “Besides the roof skin, the car was very solid,” she explained. “It had Hotchkis front and rear sway bars, Hedman [10] headers, a 2-1/2 inch dual exhaust system, stainless braided brake hoses, Mopar performance cam shaft, Crane gold roller rockers, and a quick ratio steering gear box.” The car came running and diving with a 360 cubic-inch small-block, 727 automatic transmission, and a 3.23:1 geared, 8-3/4 inch suregrip rearend. Again, we’d “settle” for this car any day.

Chris’ passion for what she calls “old iron,” the only kind of iron she’ll drive, goes further than just her Charger. She also has a 1973 Rallye Challenger, a 1973 AMC Javelin, a 1980 CJ7 Jeep, and a 1939 and 1956 Harley that Chris and Gabe built.

Chris contacted us again and asked if we wanted to share some of her other toys, to which we replied, “why not?” The vehicles below just show how passionate she is about anything with an engine and wheels…. well, two wheels, at least.

Yeah, we'd say Chris is having some fun during this chapter of her life.

We’ve never talked to a girl quite like Chris, so we were thrilled when she reached out to us. All you have to do is send us an email [17] and your car could end up being one of our Street Features [18].
