Team Moroso Earns Hot Rodders Of Tomorrow Engine Challenge Title

One of the most entertaining attractions each and every year at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas is the Hot Rodders of Tomorrow Engine Challenge, which receives prime real estate in the Las Vegas Convention Center and pits teams of high school automotive students, backed by many of the major players in the high performance industry, against one another for bragging rights and college scholarships in what is one big engine building free-for-all.

Dubbed the “Showdown at SEMA,” this year’s Hot Rodders of Tomorrow Engine Challenge featured a collection of the top 10 high school automotive technology teams from across the nation, squaring off in several “heats” in which a Chevy 350 high performance engine is torn down and rebuilt throughout the week of SEMA to determine an overall champion in front of tens of thousands of spectators. Each team competed once each day. Tuesday through Thursday, and at the end of the third day, the times were averaged to determine a national champion.

This year, Moroso Performance Products teamed up with the youth at Loara High School in Anaheim, California, and following three grueling days of engine tear downs and rebuilds, the six-person team took home the hardware with an impressive winning time of just 21 minutes and eight seconds. This beat out the five other teams within the top six that bettered last years’ winning time.

Along with the accolade of winning such an exclusive event, each member of Team Moroso earned a $10,000 scholarship to the automotive school of their choosing from a selection of the Ohio Technical College, University of Northwestern Ohio, and the School of automotive Machinists. A big congratulations not only to the team from Loara High School, but to all of the participants for reaching such a marquee competition.
