Though Ford hasn’t built a Fox-body Mustang in 20 years, they’re still among the most popular vehicles for weekend warriors and serious drag racers alike. They’re light, they’re cheap, and the aftermarket is almost unmatched for the Fox-body Mustang. But just because two guys both drive Fox-body Mustangs means they’re not willing to throw down and race a grudge match with money on the line.

This next video comes from the Thursday Night Lightz “King of the Street” event in Cleves, Ohio. It features two Fox-bodies facing off, and damn near colliding in a high-speed, high-stakes grudge match with $1,000 on the line.

Decked out like a World War II bomber in the near lane is the “Rosa Belle”, a 1979 Mercury Capri that was an identical twin to the Mustang of the era. The paint job is formidable, especially compared to the brash, sparkling blue of his opponents Mustang. With a chute and slicks, you can tell the Capri means business. Then it all almost goes horribly wrong.

The Rosa Belle began to head out of the groove toward the centerline about 60-feet out, leaving the driver no choice but to pedal it to get back on course. The ship was only righted for a short time however, as the Capri went careening into the other lane. The blue Mustang in the other lane never wavered, and the Capri driver somehow saved his run from ending up in his competitors bumper or the wall.
