With much of the attention from the public and consequently the focus of the performance aftermarket on the Mustang and GM’s LS platform vehicles, Chrysler’s modern muscle cars are often lost in the shuffle, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t doing some intriguing things, as well.
One Chrysler owner, Sam Uthman, in particular, has helped to put the Dodge brand in the spotlight with his 200 mph, awe-inspiring 2009 Dodge Challenger. Uthman’s machine is powered by a 406-inch aluminum block, late model Hemi with twin 67 mm turbochargers, producing what he believes to be in the neighborhood of 1,300 horsepower to the rear wheels. The power is backed up by a 4L80E transmission.
Uthman holds what is said to be the Modern Mopar record with his sleek and clean-looking Challenger in the standing mile, as he clocked a staggering 211.8 mph run at the October Texas Mile event at the Victoria Regional Airport in Beeville, Texas.
While Uthman says the car is set up for the longer distance standing mile speed runs, the 4,500 pound behemoth still proves how capable and how powerful it truly is, scorching its way to an 8.812-second pass at 160.42 mph in the 1/4-mile at the Royal Purple Raceway near Houston.
With the kind of weight Uthman is dragging around, the blue oval and bowtie brigades ought to be taking notice, if they aren’t already — we know we certainly are.
