Recently, we published a feature on a Dodge Polara from Berlin, Germany. As we dug a little deeper into the Muscle Car scene in Europe, we found that, much like the whole “JDM” import movement over here, there are a group of people in Europe who absolutely love domestic – err.. American Muscle Cars.
This particular video was shot in Vantaa, Finland, just outside of the capital city of Helsinki, and is from a monthly cruise-in put on by a group of Muscle Car enthusiasts who meet up on the third Friday of every month. The event is open to the public, and as you can see from the video, they draw quite a crowd.
Besides the huge variety of American cars from the ‘50s through the ‘70s (with a couple of street rods and ‘80s Camaros and Mustangs mixed in), there also seems to be some diesel pickups in the mix, which, if you didn’t know the video was shot in Finland, you would swear were right here in here in the U.S.
One thing we noticed in the video is that there were a number of “outsiders” that showed up, and they seemed to be welcomed the same as everyone else. So while this particular Finnish cruise in was aimed at Muscle Cars but accepting of everyone, there seems to be a less-inclusive cruise out of Kuopio, Finland hilariously-named “Tuning Sucks Cruise-in”.
In fact, digging around on CrusingNight.fi – which seems to be the centralized website for Finnish Muscle Car cruise-in schedules – it seems that there are 14 regular American Muscle Car cruise-ins across the country of Finland. If the quality of the cars at those events is anything like what we see from the Vantaa Cruise in this video, it is safe to say that the Finns are doing the Muscle Car thing oh so right.
