Video: Ride Along for Mark Stielow’s Optima Hot Lap Challenge Run

The Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational (OUSCI) [1] brings out the cream of the crop when it comes to amazing cars and incredible drivers. One such duo that made an appearance at this year’s event was Mark Stielow and his ‘69 Camaro. Although Stielow wasn’t able to grab the title of Ultimate Street Car this year, his runs in every leg of the competition were impressive, and thanks to a video we came across on YouTube [2], you don’t have to take our word for it.

If you follow the news surrounding the OUSCI, you know that Stielow drove his way to the ultimate win last year at the event, earning his supercharged LS7-powered Camaro the coveted title of Ultimate Street Car. Although he worked hard to keep that title for another year, Stielow was beat out in a tie-breaker by rookie Danny Popp [3] and his C6 Corvette this year.

With both men finishing the competition with 80 points, the winner of the Ultimate Street Car title came down to which driver completed their best lap of the B.F. Goodrich Hot Lap Challenge the fastest. Stielow had completed his best lap in the Hot Lap Challenge in 1 minute and 45 seconds, but was unable to beat Popp’s best time of 1 minute and 42 seconds.

It is Stielow’s Hot Lap Challenge run that appears in the video above. Although his best time didn’t get him the overall win at the OUSCI, it is impressive to watch as Stielow expertly navigates his Camaro through the turns of the road course of Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch. But don’t take our word for it. Watch the video above and make sure to turn up those speakers to experience the Hot Lap Challenge behind the wheel of Red Devil in all its glory.
