Video: That Dude’s 1966 Ford Galaxie Retro Review

That Dude In Blue, a.k.a. David Patterson, is best known for reviewing newer model cars, but he does do a classic every once and a while, so when he released a review recently on this 1966 Ford Galaxie, we couldn’t wait to take a look. The car is great, and his review is definitely worth a watch — if not just for a couple good laughs.

The iconic look of the ford Galaxie is unmistakable. We love the vertical dual headlights.

“It’s a huge car, it’s extremely long, it has a ton of character, and it really does match the era 100-percent,” David said when driving the car. He seemed to have mixed feelings about it at first, but it became clear early on in the video that he enjoyed the car. He was particularly pleased with the automatic transmission.

The car is powered by a simple 352-cubic-inch engine with a mild cam and four-barrel carburetor. It drove well and rolled like a boat going around corners, which David did comment on. He also missed having  shoulder harness seatbelt, but he survived regardless.

The chrome, Edelbrock air intake is a classic look on these old motors.

He did let on a little as to why he doesn’t do a lot of reviews on classic cars, and it’s because the viewers of his channel are primarily young, and they don’t know about classic cars the way that the older generation does. That’s actually something we really need to focus on if we want our hobby to survive. We need to get more young people into classic cars or they are going to go away as we do.

“It should be taken into consideration where we came from and what kind of cars were before us,” he explained.

The house carpet on the dash is an interesting touch.

The owner of this car is just mentioned by first name in the video, Peter, and he has had the car since he was 14 years old. He and his dad have done a lot of work on the car, including rebuilding the motor, repainting the car, and adding the house carpet on the dash. The paint is a tractor blue that they sprayed in their driveway. It fits the car well.

David also commented that he thought it was interesting there was no passenger side rear-view mirror, a feeling we are all too familiar with.

Peter drove the car 14 hours just to bring it to where David could drive it and do a review video on it. David even commented that once the car gets up to speed, it’s like driving on a cloud, do he isn’t at all surprised that Peter would drive it so far. These cars are really designed to cruise.

One other interesting point that David made was in regard to the colored interior, or lack thereof in modern cars.

“I just love how the door panels and the seats and the dash and everything is just blue,” he explained.

David believes that colored interiors are something that has been lost to new cars, and he thinks the color fits the car and others of the era really well, but he also doesn’t think colored interior would work with a newer car. He thinks it wouldn’t look right.

What do you think about David’s video review of this Ford Galaxie? Is he on point or does he need a history lesson? Would colored interior work on newer cars? Should this Galaxie be considered a musclecar? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
