Cackling sounds of vintage drag cars will echo through the rolling hills of the Monterey Peninsula during the second annual Spring Classic, held May 18-20 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. The Spring Classic celebrates motorsports eras from the 1960s, ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s. This year, Nitro Revival brings the early days of front-engine Top Fuel dragsters and other organized hot rod racing to the event with a large lineup of fully restored machines.
“Nitro Revival is a unique car show with unique vehicles that celebrate drag racing,” said Steve Gibbs, Nitro Revival producer. “Laguna Seca is an iconic place with a facility that can accommodate the growth of Nitro Revival and we are able to add a historical drag race element to their event.”
According to the event schedule, Nitro Revival takes place on Saturday, May 19, of the event. Highlights include push starts with period-correct push start vehicles and burnouts, and a large turnout of classic street rods and hot rods are slated to attend. The day will close with a “Line of Fire” mass fire-up of all the drag cars.
In total, attendees can watch 11 run groups made of approximately 200 historically-correct sports and race cars that will take on the 11-turn, 2.238-mile road course. Those run groups include 1966-74 Can-Am, 1966-1972 Trans-Am 2.5-Liter, 1974-94 Stock Cars, 1973-1987 FIA, 1967-1979 Formula Atlantic, 1970-1984 Sports Cars 2-Liter, 1967-1980 Formula Ford, 1990-2007 GTP/LMP/WSC/Daytona Prototype/IMSA GTO, SCCA GT & IMSA RS, 1965-1978 Formula B & 1965-1977 Formula C, 1955-1961 Sports Cars under 2.0 liters, and motorcycles to take part in Historic Motorcycles Exhibition Laps.
“Everyone who has an interest in motorsports, cars and moving entertainment will enjoy their experience at the Spring Classic,” said Gill Campbell, senior vice president of events at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Campbell added the event will be sensory overload.
