Owners of 3rd and 4th Gen F-Bodies have turned to Hawks Third Gen for restoration parts as well as performance parts to build a killer TPI 350s. Hawk’s is also famous for selling parts and kits that help third gen owners swap LS motors into their rides. We decided to see what kind of rides the staff of Hawk’s drive and if they take advantage of their warehouse of parts to build hot rods of their own. After some digging we were impressed with what we discovered.
One of our favorite rides is this fiery orange 1994 Camaro owned by TJ of Hawks. Not only does it look great with its flame paint job and mean stance but it has the performance to back it up. TJ’s early 4th Gen doesn’t contain your typical LS1 swap or even a stroked LT1, he took a different approach and installed a twin turbo, fuel injected 408. The 408 has a collection of performance parts including a Callis forged crank, H-Beam rods, and 28cc dished pistons creating a 9.0:1 compression ratio. AFR heads are mounted on top of the block while inside lies a Speed Inc cam. An LS6 intake pumps in the air while 96lb injectors deliver the juice. Dual Precision 67mm Turbos provide extra propulsion thanks to the Twin Speed Inc air-to-air intercooler. The power is delivered to the wheels via Tremec T56 Magnum transmission and 3.25 rear gears.
TJ’s 4th gen is not only a powerful drag car, but it’s still a somewhat streetable hot rod. The interior still has all of the creature comforts, including leather seats, full carpet, CD player and cup holders. This is a car that’s capable of being competitive at the strip and taken to the local diner afterwords.
