5 Eye-Catching Chevrolets Offered at Mecum Auctions L.A. Sale

It was easy to get lost among the cars offered at the annual Los Angeles Mecum Auction, held February 16-17 at the Fairplex in Pomona, California. Being new to California, I hadn’t visited the Fairplex yet, so upon arriving, the first sight I saw was several large buildings that held all of the cars offered during the sale. I found muscle cars, restomods, hot rods, and other custom creations with the occasional pre-war classic mixed in with modern performance vehicles and imports of European and Japanese descent.

After spending a few days perusing among the hundreds of cars offered, I decided to highlight five eye-catching Chevrolets offered by the auction company.

Here are cars that caught my eye:

1969 Chevrolet Camaro

One of the cars that caught my eye was this custom 1969 Chevrolet Camaro. What stood out to me the most was the Aqua Blue paint paired with black rally stripes. Its powered by a 396 cubic-inch big block engine with performance enhancers like a Demon carburetor, Doug’s headers, 3.73 geared 12-bolt rear end, and four-speed transmission.  The car crossed the block for $40,150.

1964 Chevrolet Nova Sedan Delivery

This 1964 Chevrolet Nova isn’t exactly a “traditional” muscle car, but it certainly was eye-catching. Powered by a 327 cubic-inch V8 topped with a four-barrel carburetor, the Sedan Delivery Nova earned $18,000 on the block. Other unseen highlights include bucket seats, dual exhaust, and a four-speed transmission.

1969 Chevrolet Camaro

This 1969 Chevrolet Camaro stood out to me because it’s an over-the-top restomod that borders the pro-touring style. It has been painted in Viper Red and is powered by a GM performance ZZ4 350 cubic-inch crate engine. The car sold for $40,000 which seems like a deal considering it has a custom carbon fiber hood and custom carbon fiber accessories. Additionally, the car is fitted with modern suspension and a Wilwood master cylinder works with its C5 Z06 disc brakes.

1969 Chevrolet Chevelle

Not only does this 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle command your attention, it holds onto it with its one-owner history and fresh restoration. Along with a $30,000 hammer price, the car comes highly documented with Protect-O-Plate and its original Arizona title application, original owners manual, original AAA documents and restoration receipts.

Docket details note the vehicle was special ordered and it comes with factory options like air conditioning, bucket seats, and has an automatic transmission hooked to it’s 350 cubic-inch V8.

1955 Chevrolet Nomad

It’s no surprise this 1955 Chevrolet Nomad was a 2015 Grand National Roadster Show class trophy winner. The Nomad is seen in light and dark blue paint with a blue leather interior. The body has had just 10 modifications performed to it and it sits atop a Newman chassis with Corvette suspension.

The docket details note the Nomad is powered by an LS3 engine hooked with a 4L65E automatic transmission. Other features include new chrome, a custom dashboard and gauges, a custom stereo and console, as well as custom side moldings. For the $100,000 hammer price it earned, it even comes with creature comforts like bucket seats, air conditioning, electric windows, and smoked glass.

1970 Chevrolet Chevelle

Love it or hate it, this 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle was pretty unique. According to the owner, the car received a frame-off restoration by Miranda Built and made its debut at the 2008 SEMA Show where it won the People’s Choice Awards. Under the hood, the car receives its power from a supercharged and polished 600 horsepower LS2 crate engine. Its hooked to a four-speed transmission with overdrive and has an electronic pushbutton shifter.

The Chevelle is seen in Pinter Black with custom flames sprayed by EROD Customs, the black leather interior was installed by ‘The Shop” in Florida, and a set of 22-inch wheels built to specification by Asanti in Corona completes the look.

An estimated $200,000 was spent on the build which makes its $80,000 hammer price seem like a deal.

The next event for Mecum Auctions will be the 25th Kansas City sale, set for March 16-17 at the Kansas City Convention Center.
