Craigslist Find: Off-Road capable 1972 Dodge Challenger

When I want to explore the road less-traveled, which is often poorly maintained or near non-existent, muscle cars can feel a bit limiting despite the performance and style that goes with them. As a result, I often test my luck and take my lowered 2014 Mustang on more dirt roads than I ever really should. But what if I didn’t have to settle or compromise the performance and style of a muscle car for off-road capabilities?

While taking a look through Craigslist I found an old listing that is clearly the remedy to this very scenario. The answer is this 1972 Dodge Challenger that has been converted to an off-road 4×4 machine.

According to the ad, this 4×4 Challenger sits on a welded 1977 M1009 military frame and chassis. It comes powered by a 5.7-liter engine fitted with long tube headers and full-custom Flowmaster dual exhaust. New accessories atop the engine include a four-barrel Quick Fuel carburetor, highrise intake manifold, HEI distributor, radiator, alternator, aftermarket Holley fuel pump, new plugs/wires, and a new air cleaner/filter.

So, when the zombie apocalypse breaks out, not only can you get away quickly in this Dodge but doing so on-or-off pavement is no longer an issue.

The seller says “the car drives incredibly well ON the road for short trips and even road trips… but it does even better OFF the road.” To back up this claim, the seller added the video below of the Challenger in action at Hollister Hills SVRA.

The ad says $45,000 was put into transforming this muscle car into the off-road beast we see here. The new owner will receive all the appropriate documents and receipts for just $28,000.

You could spend about the same amount on a new and super lame V6 Dodge Challenger, or you can spend that money on a beast that is clearly the best tool for the impending apocalypse and only has 3,400 miles on it.
