Mopar is back again with their special edition Mopar Performance treatment, this time for the 2015 Dodge Charger R/T. While many of Mopar’s offerings for Chargers, Challengers and Darts have traditionally focused more on “show” rather than “go”, this particular package strikes an interesting balance between the two.
Just fifty examples of the dealer-installed upgrade package will be on offer, and each will include the Scat Pack Stage 1 performance kit, which brings with it a Mopar Performance cold air intake, a low-restriction cat-back exhaust system, a strut tower brace with end caps and a “premium fuel powertrain control module” which we’re going to interpret as a hotter ECU tune than the standard Charger R/T. All told, the package bumps horsepower up 18 ponies and torque increases by another 18 pound-feet.
Visually the upgrades are fairly subtle – a serialized dash plaque, Mopar sill plates, matte black body-side decals and brushed nickel brake and throttle pedals comprise the aesthetic enhancements.
Along with the upgrades for the car, buyers will also get a numbered wooden crate, a magnetic mechanic’s tray, a vintage poster and a few other items of schwag.
If you’re game for the package, you’d better move fast and be ready to pony up the $3550 required to get your hands on it. At that price we’d probably just save up a few bucks more and spring for the 6.4-liter V8-powered Charger R/T Scat Pack, which not only sports an upgraded exhaust, but also Brembo brakes, uprated suspension, more aggressive bodywork, and nearly 100 more horsepower than the standard R/T, although it does admittedly lack some of this package’s collectability.
