When you mention “Perris”, immediately thoughts of Eiffel Tower and quaint cafes come to mind for most people. But there’s another Perris in the Inland Empire area of Southern California, and while they don’t have any fancy towers there are some landmarks unique to this little town that attract people from all over the country – and even the world.
One famous attraction is Skydive Perris, another attraction is one of their neighbors – the Orange Empire Railway Museum. Both of these attractions host car shows every year, and the City of Perris recently held their tenth annual Rods and Rails car and motorcycle show at the railway museum, a show for cars and motorcycles dating as far back as the early 1900’s through the late 1970’s.
The Rods and Rails show is always a huge success for classic car, bike and truck owners, with plenty of attractions for kids of all ages. If the kids need to be entertained, you can always ride the trains as often as you want for a small fee, or take a break from all the hot rods and check out the antique trains in one of the many buildings on the property. Inside you’ll find old rail cars, steam engines, and even a couple of miniature railroad cities on display.
There are electric street cars making their way around the property throughout the day, as well as operational early steam engines, 1800’s Territorial Marshall reenactments, live music, contests and dozens of vendors.
Every year it seems there are hundreds of vehicles in attendance, and from the looks of it the show will be going on for decades more. If you missed it this year, be sure to check it out next year, it makes for a great day of fun for the whole family.
