SEMA 2019: Chevrolet Is All About Trucks, Corvettes And E-Power

It was easy to take the temperature of Chevrolet at SEMA 2019. With only Camaro and Corvette representing cars, the big push was definitely trucks, EVs, crate motors, and accessories.

Chevy showed the 2021 Colorado ZR2 Dusk concept, representing the latest version of its white-hot, all-terrain truck. The concept sported a Desert Storm shade of khaki paint and a brand new grille treatment, borrowing Chevy’s design language from its big brother, the Silverado.

We talked with Adrienne Peters – Product, Marketing & Social Media Manager, Chevrolet Performance Parts, and she walked us through an enormous selection of Chevy authorized accessories for Colorado, running the gamut from air-induction boxes to full suspension upgrades. To say that Chevy has you covered if you want to go offroad or gussy up your Colorado (or Silverado) is an understatement.

Next up, Chevy not only showed the latest version of the C8 Corvette, a Rapid Blue roadster, but a race car edition as well. We talked to a GM honcho (who shall remain anonymous,) and when we suggested if we squinted our eyes, we could see a street going variant of the wide-body race car dubbed Z06, we were met with a stone-faced “No comment.” Hmmmmm.

Moving along to concept vehicles, Chevy showed a very cool electrified 1962 C10 truck dubbed the E-10. Gone is the original V8 engine, replaced with Chevy’s electric Connect & Cruise concept crate propulsion package offering roughly 450 horsepower. Utilizing proven components from the Chevrolet Bolt EV, the system features twin electric crate motors, two Bolt-sourced 400-volt batteries, and a conventional automatic transmission.

Last but not least, along with a mind-boggling array of gas motors, Chevy also showed an electric crate engine concept, with a bell housing attached, no less. The idea is, yank your old dino-juice engine and swap in the electric motor and battery pack, and bingo, you’ve got a zero-emissions, green machine. Just a concept for now, but a very relevant and interesting idea from Chevrolet. Go here for more info on Bow Tie Performance.
