SEMA 2014: Turbosmart Releases More Parts To Make Our Lives Easier

One of the interesting aspects of building a high performance engine; is working to get every last little bit of power out of it. Now we truly never achieve perfection, but the process is extremely rewarding.

For anyone who is focused on boosted performance, air management is critical. The folks at Turbosmart understand how hard it can be to manage air. After all, it never really wants to go where you want it, it just has no other choice. During the SEMA Show, we stopped by Turbosmart’s booth to get the skinny on what’s new.

IMG_2121Valve Travel Sensor Cap

While technically, this isn’t brand new because it was launched during the PRI show, it still is less than a year old. The valve travel sensor cap is a pretty special thing for those of you really trying to get everything out of your vehicle. The valve travel sensor cap allows the tuner to install a valve position sensor into the wastegate. When connected to a data logger, the tuner is able to record the position of the valve at almost any time.

After a race, pull, or run, simply download the data and compare it to the rest of the system. If you want to see how much the valve opens in relation to boost pressure or when the gate actually cracks open you can. This will help you fine tune the gate and really the entire system to get every last little bit out of it.

EcoBoost — Fiesta ST and F-150

The Ford EcoBoost engines have proven themselves to be a robust engine that tuners love. Turbosmart has had great success with their Kompact blow off valve for the Ford Focus and they have high hopes for the Fiesta and F-150. Both of these valves were on display during the SEMA Show and a 2015 Mustang EcoBoost kit will be available soon.

The Kompact series is an all billet construction designed to be a direct bolt-on replacement for OEM valves. These valves are designed to dump the maximum amount of air in the shortest amount of time. This means the charger can get back on boost much quicker resulting in better acceleration.

The IWG (internal wastegate) actuators were introduced last year and they are well received from enthusiasts. These actuators are able to hold the internal wastegates shut longer, letting the turbochargers build more boost. This year, the IWG75 is being released with dual ports. By having two ports, the tuner can really dial in the desired wastegate setting regardless of how stiff the spring is or how much boost pressure they want to use.

“Having two ports gives the tuner control of the gate like an external wastgate,” said Kristin Stone, National Sales and Marketing Manager for Turbosmart USA.

These are just a few of the exciting new products that Turbosmart is or has been releasing over the past year. If you truly want to get everything you can out of your system, then check out their website.
