SEMA 2018: Every Bolt On This

SEMA 2018: Every Bolt On This ’69 Camaro Build Is Made By ARP

If you remember back to the Goodguys PPG Nationals in Columbus, Ohio, earlier this year, we reported on the winner of the Street Machine Of The Year, the Detroit Speed and Engineering-built ’69 Camaro, nicknamed TUX. Well, we were able to get a closer look at the car during the 2018 SEMA Show, when we stopped by the Automotive Racing Products (ARP) booth.

Simply put, the car is exquisite. One of the things about TUX we mentioned in our recap of the Goodguys show, was the level of detail that went into the making of the ’69. At a cursory glance, it would be easy to dismiss the car as another well done pro-touring build, but upon closer inspection, anyone with half-a-mind for quality and attention to detail would notice just how impressive this car is. We’re talking, down to the fasteners Detroit Speed chose to use on the Camaro – that level of minutia was considered before a single bolt was secured.

We actually got a chance to catch up with Kyle Tucker of Detroit Speed and Engineering, at the ARP booth, and he explained the level of thought and care that went into the build, as well as some of the components that made it possible. When a company the caliber of Detroit Speed needs top-notch parts, specifically fasteners of any kind, they reach out to ARP. Every single nut and bolt on TUX was sourced from ARP, and you can tell by the 12-point bolt heads that adorn the panels and parts of the build. We’d argue that the 12-point fastener in the automotive industry, has become somewhat synonymous with ARP.

Kyle Tucker had this to say about the car, and the company that made several custom fasteners for the build, “We just did it where it looks like a ’69 Camaro, but it’s ultra refined — every piece, every part, every fastener. It’s a ’69 Camaro, but it’s very sophisticated, very elegant, and ready to rock and roll. You know, ARP is the best in the business – if you’re a racer, if you’re a custom car builder, if you need that fastener to do its job, everybody knows to come to ARP. Not only from a functional standpoint, but sometimes from a builders standpoint, it has to be functional and look right. That’s part of the jewelry that we look at when we build a car like this. There’s a lot of subtle modifications, but the fasteners just kind of add that little “rhinestone” to it.”

We couldn’t think of a better way to describe the kind of fasteners ARP is churning out, and you can find out all about them at arp-bolts.com.
