Engine swaps into different chassis poses several problems, and honestly, are more difficult than most garage builders think. There is always that item or two (maybe even three or four) that you don’t think about when you are laying out your swap. Hedman Performance knows this quite well, and have been creating their “swap-in-a-box” kits for several years. They’ve got just about every popular engine swap covered, and are now updating with different materials.
“We’ve had swap-in-the-box kits for a number of years, but each year we try to add something new. This year we’ve added several more kits, including this kit for first-gen F-body Camaro/Firebird with stainless-steel headers,” said Marc Lewis. “We’ve had this kit before with mild steel, and now we have the stainless-steel version.”
These engine swap kits are designed to simplify the process for many enthusiasts looking to install a modern engine into their current vehicle. “This is a suite of products that we’ve put together from all of the Hedman Group manufacturers. Headers are from Hedman, Hamburger’s Performance supplies the oil pan, and then Trans-Dapt supplies engine and transmission products. Each one of these companies is a specialist in its own line,” said Lewis.
We’ve always liked Hedman’s swap kits, because they simplify the end-user’s experience by taking the guess work out of the project. Along the same lines of thinking, Hedman has developed a street rod mount with brackets for the LT engine, another very popular swap. Hedman’s street rod LT engine mount is a bolt to the block and cut-to-length, then weld into place, type of mount. We can see where this is going to be a highly requested item for those builders that favor the LT engine swaps.
