When building a hot rod, many aspects of the car are anything but stock. Parts like the engine, transmission, and rearend are typically modified or altered in the quest for better performance. Suspension components typically receive similar updates in the name of better handling, and Classic Performance Products (CPP) is a name that many already know when suspension upgrades are needed. But, CPP had a surprise for everyone at the show.
New this year is a completely modular rearend housing that can be built to almost any enthusiast’s specifications. “What we have here is a really high-quality, cast-aluminum center section,” stated Danny Nix of CPP. “It is designed to accept a Ford 9-inch third member, and it also has flanges on the right and left side for attaching axle tubes.”
Before you ask, the tubes seal to the center section via O-rings, so leakage should not be a concern. The center section is modular, and CPP can change out axle-tube length, mounting brackets, and housing ends. As far as the fasteners holding everything together, “The third member is held in by traditional pressed-in bolts like a traditional unit would be, and the axle tube to center section joint uses an incredibly high-strength bolt,” says Nix.
“This modular design allows the same center section to fit almost any application,” says Nix. “It doesn’t matter if you’re working on a Ford, Chevy, or Mopar, simply fit the needed axle tubes to the center section.”
