Cummins-Powered, Allison Backed: Diamond Eye Performance ’48 Ford F5

In the automotive industry, most companies will have a designated vehicle that showcases their products. This is so when they go to events or trade shows and have it on display, you, the end user, can see what all products they offer and see them on a vehicle in person. For the most part, these vehicles are brand new, but that’s not the case for Diamond Eye Performance.

After scrolling through our social media, something caught my eye. I’ve always had a secret love for old pickup trucks and I had to swipe up to get another look. What I saw was the 2016 SEMA Show truck for Diamond Eye Performance. A 1948 Ford F5 COE Hauler Cab Over with definitely larger than stock wheels and tires.

One of the most amazing builds we’ve ever seen.

I reached out to Diamond Eye’s own Tom Terjeson for some information in regards to this masterpiece. “We appreciate the love for the truck, it’s gotten a lot of attention so far,” said Terjeson. “Diamond Eye Performance owns the truck and we mainly take it to shows and events for now, but the build was specifically built for the 2016 SEMA Show.”

With the growing love for the truck, they went on to take it to the 2018 SEMA Show as well.

This ’48 F5 body rests on a 1985 GM C30 chassis that was purchased in California. “We worked with Bennett Leffler of Performance Authority Truck & Off Road in Helena, Montana,” said Terjeson. “The original hauler bed was removed and a 100 percent custom hauler bed was designed and built by Anvil Fabworks.” The custom bed includes help from Crawl 2 Run Fabrication, winch by WARN Winches, and Mac’s Custom Tie Downs.

After all the prep work, it was time to get this thing in the booth and covered in paint.

Obviously, the guys at Diamond wanted to make a statement and made sure the exterior of the truck was pristine and show ready. With that being said, they credit the shine to Greg’s Custom Creations for the paint job. This beautiful black paint compliments the monster American Force wheels and Toyo Tires. Custom rear suspension, CB Chassis Products A-Arms, Ride-Rite Firestone airbag system, powered by Accuair, this truck is ready for anything.

Setting up the custom rear suspension and mocking up the new bed that was being built.

Not only does this truck look great, but it runs amazing as well. These compound turbos will allow the towing of whatever they desire a lot easier.

So, the truck looks great, but what gets it down the road? Under the hood of the Ford is an Industrial Injection built 12-valve Cummins engine. Inside this engine is a set of Mahle pistons, Dynomite Diesel Injectors, and ARP studs and bolts through and through.

On the exterior, Diamond relies on a FASS Fuel System to keep the pump fed, and forces air into the engine by a set of compound turbos from BD Diesel Performance and exhaust exiting with a fully custom exhaust by the crew at Diamond Eye Performance. A truck this big, making this much power, is being backed by a what, 48RE? No. In probably the most anticipated engine-transmission combination, this truck is backed by an ATS Diesel built Allison Transmission paired with Nitro rear gears.

Be sure and check out CA Conversions on how to get ahold of the kit you need to swap an Allison Transmission into any engine!

All new wiring from Ron Francis wiring, charging and starting from XS Power, headlights from Vision X, Klein Diablo Train horns, and a fully swapped interior that utilizes the second generation Ram seats. The seats are custom wrapped by Roadwire Leather.

“The majority of the work was done by Bennett Leffler, and he’s been a great collaborator and friend of ours for years,” said Terjeson. “He has also helped us on other projects, such as our Hummer H2Maxx Twin Turbo Duramax.”

We would like to thank Diamond Eye Performance for going out on the edge and building such a unique truck to show off their imagination. Also, for more information on Diamond Eye Performance, check out their website. What are your thoughts on this old-school rig? Let us know in the comments below.
