LA Auto Show Live: Galpin Auto Sports Introduces Rocket Mustang

Rocket051When Henrik Fisker met with Galpin President Beau Boeckmann about building a custom Mustang, Boeckmann said, “I got chills. It’s literally the most beautiful Mustang I have ever seen.” That Mustang went from concept to completion through Galpin Auto Sports, drawing on inspiration from the 1960s and 1970s pony car. Called the Rocket, this 2015 custom build was on display at the LA Auto show and trumped all other 2015 Mustangs at the show.

Rocket010Rather than just building a Mustang, Galpin did it their way by sculpting the lines and improving on the cars overall appeal. The body is carbon-fiber, constructed by Metalcrafters, Inc., and was widened by four inches over the stock Mustang body. The front splitter on the Rocket works simultaneously with the rear spoiler and enlarged rear diffuser to create downforce at higher speeds.

Getting to those higher speeds is a pumped up via Whipple supercharger to push 725 horses, and we’ve been told that the potential for even more is there. Our contact at Galpin says that the car has been tested and driven pretty hard, but hasn’t really hit the track yet, however, the performance is there in all aspects with regards to acceleration, cornering, and braking.

Galpin, like Ford with their Shelby GT350, was keeping the lid closed on the Rocket, so we didn’t get to see the boosted mill, but we do have a standing invite when this car goes out to the track for testing and we’ll be sure to head out there and bring back some more information.

Rocket012For now, we’ll have to settle with the not so subtle enhancements, namely the 21-inch ADV.1 wheels with Pirelli P-Zero tires and 15-inch Brembo Gran Turismo brakes to bring the beast to a halt. Keeping the car handling at its peak is a completely adjustable front and rear suspension system designed to carve a few corners at speed.

The Rocket is some serious eye candy, and if you’re going to the LA Auto Show be sure to check it out in the Concourse Hall. In the meantime, check out the gallery below.
