PRI 2014: Garrett Turbo Releases Three New Turbos For 2015

Garrett’s GTX5533R makes it’s debut in the popular racing line of turbochargers.

We checked in on the newest products at Garrett Turbos and we found a trio of interesting developments in the booth. The first is the company’s newly designed GTX55-33R racing turbo, which is an oil cooled turbo designed for serious racing applications. Company spokesman Yukio Taira explained the unit as a ball bearing style with internal wastegate housing. “The GTX55-33R has an all-new compressor housing that helps produce 1 to 2 more psi. It’s designed for drag radial racing, and some diesel applications,” he added.

It features a fully machined 11 blade billet compressor wheel, with the compressor housing undergoing portwork to increase surge resistance. While it is sold without the turbine housing, there are turbine housing kits available to suit the customer’s needs.

Next is the new GTX45-94R racing turbo, which is familiar to many enthusiasts as the GTX42-49R but is now offered in larger configurations and renamed. It will feature a dual ceramic ball bearing center section and a forged milled compressor wheel. The GTX45-94R can support 475 to 960 horsepower and it has a wide range of applications ranging from 2.0L all the way up to a 7.0L. “This design definitely helps makes low-end power,” claims Taira.

Garrett’s new line of turbochargers are certain to open some eyes with it’s budget minded nature and dependable power.

The biggest change in the Garrett line this upcoming year is a brand new full line of turbos that are being introduced as the GTW line with three sizes, the GTW34-76R, GTW36-84, and GTW38-84R.

“They offer a wide range of power opportunities, especially for entry level customers,” said Taira. “It looks like a GTX but with fewer blades in the compressor wheel. We used an existing turbine wheel to keep costs down.”

The budget minded GTW performance line will feature forged milled compressor wheels and is being positioned between the GT and GTX lineup.
