B&M shifters have been around for a long time, and amazingly they are always finding news ways of keeping them modern and fresh. Take for example Hurst’s Pistol Grip Quarter Stick and Pro Bandit shifters that now comes with interchangeable handle plates that allow you to add a touch of class to the cabin or even features such as a line lock button.
These shifters come equipped with standard machined aluminum plates bolted to the pistol grip handle but can be swapped out for cherry wood to class things up, or as we mentioned, a plate that comes with an additional thumb button. This can be used to operate line-locks, nitrous purges, or trans brakes.
And while that is great for the automatic-driving crowd, the same option is not available on Hurst’s new billet sixth-gen Camaro shifter–which use a similar pistol grip handle.
“As of right now, we don’t have any official plans to bring the plate swapping capabilities over to our manual shifters,” said Dale Dotson, VP of marketing at Hurst. “I have been pushing for it though. It wouldn’t take much for us to do it, we basically would just have to machine down the grip and offer interchangeable plates, so we’ll see what we can do.”
The Billet Plus shifter for the sixth-gen Camaro was originally rolled out at SEMA 2016, but this is the first we have heard of possibly having a modular system for the pistol grip. The addition of a button plate would be the perfect option for those looking to run a simple to operate line-lock switch.
While the modular plate system may not be a sure bet, we are hoping to see one come to production.
