PRI 2019: 2,000HP V16 Engine Held Together With ARP Bolts

Any engine making 2,000 horsepower and 2,000 lb-ft of torque is impressive. That’s compounded even further when you start tossing around words like LS-based, dual-supercharged, and 16-cylinder. Even still, most people wouldn’t consider how impressive the hardware holding it all together is. That’s where ARP comes in.

You all know ARP. The famed fastener company has been around since the ’70s when Gary Holzapfel saw a bunch of his friends’ broken engines was caused by fastener failure. So, it comes as no surprise Sixteen Power reached out to the folks at ARP to supply the legendary hardware for their monster engine build.

Naturally, we just had to catch up with the madman behind such a creation. We spoke with Tom Robinson of Sixteen Power for the inside scoop on how and why they chose to go with ARP as the fastener for their 2,000 horsepower brainchild.

“This is crazy! There’s no doubt about that. But we’re also conservative about how we reached that level of crazy. So, the very first stop we made when we designed this engine was ARP. I spoke to the guys there and explained, I’m going to need a main-stud kit that isn’t on your shelf. I’ve got 10 main-webs. I’ve got six bolts per web. So, there are 60 ARP bolts that hold a billet oil pan to this cast 16-cylinder block that captures a 16-cylinder billet crank. That’s the heart of the engine. So, while I know there are all kinds of beautiful ARP polished bling here, the most important thing to us was a crank spinning happily in this block. And, we went straight to ARP for that. They even gave us our own part number,” stated Tom Robinson of Sixteen Power.

This isn’t the first time ARP has gone above and beyond for one of their customers. ARP has been cranking out hardware for custom and race applications for years. From NASCAR to Formula-1 cars and everything in between, ARP makes nuts and bolts to hold them together.
