The 2015 Mustang is the hottest product in the performance aftermarket right now. Everywhere we turn at the SEMA show, we’re seeing these cars, and products for them. One of the first to market with something that nearly every Mustang GT and EcoBoost owner will probably want is from our friends over at AIRAID.
The shape of the box is designed to optimize airflow all the way around the filter. We’re pulling air from the factory cold air intake duct, but we’re putting a spinning motion on the air as it approaches the filter. -Trent McGee
The GT and the EcoBoost share the same air box, which is a sealed design, with a transparent access panel. The access panel allows owners to monitor the condition of their air filter, and the top can be easily removed for servicing the filter. Both systems are available with AIRAID’s traditional oiled filters, or their dry SynthaMax filters.
All of the provisions for fittings, sensors, and tubing are in place, making these systems a quick and easy bolt-on. Nearly any enthusiast with the most basic of hand tools and knowledge can install one of these systems in their home garage. McGee also says no tuning is required something that many budget minded enthusiasts will see as a plus.
On the EcoBoost system, the air inlet tube extends from the air box housing all the way to the inlet of the turbocharger. This provides a much higher volume capacity for the turbo to bring in air. It also clears the way for future upgrades.
The 5.0 system is also an upgrade in tubing diameter and design. This system includes a provision for the sound tube, and is shipped with a cap to close off the sound tube if the owner desires.
AIRAID’s cold air intake systems for the 2015 Mustang GT and EcoBoost are available for sale from AIRAID or their authorized dealers as of this week.
