When Cadillac first introduced its Blackwing series, the world was enamored with the level of performance available through GM’s luxurious brand. Now, GM’s “Standard Of The World” brand has just released its newest variant of the super-performing sedans for 2022. You better hurry, as Cadillac is now taking V-Series Blackwing reservations and they won’t last long!

Attendees at the Rolex 24-hour race were treated to a teaser video of the all-new CT5-V and CT4-V high-performance sedans. Cadillac has since opened up the floodgates and we now know all the goodness that is housed underneath the Blackwing banner. LSxmag.com readers will remember when GM introduced the turbocharged Blackwing V8 a while back. The twin-turbo’d, dual-overhead cammed, 4.2L V8 (known by RPO code LTA) put out up to 550 horsepower and was first released on the streets in the 2019 Cadillac CT6.

The “Blackwing” V8 did not carry over to the 2022 cars, but the CT4-V Blackwing does use a V6 twin-turbo variant. The CT5-V Blackwing is a supercharged 6.2L V8.

Cadillac has released its latest Blackwing variants, and interestingly, the “Blackwing” engine isn’t part of the package.  Both the CT4 V-Series and the CT5 V-Series Caddy will offer an even higher-performing Blackwing variant, with each having its own engine next year. The 2022 Cadillac CT4 V-Series Blackwing will utilize a 3.6-liter twin-turbo V6 making 464 horsepower and 445 lb-ft of torque. The big-brother CT5 V Blackwing will up the ante with an all-new LT4 6.2L Cadillac supercharged V8 engine rated at 668 horsepower and 659 lb-ft of torque. The supercharged V8 variant is enough to push the CT5 V Blackwing to a GM-estimated top speed of 200 mph!

Of course, it takes more to reach those speeds and come back to tell about it, so Cadillac’s engineers put both Blackwing variants into GM’s wind tunnel and treated them to various carbon fiber bits to enhance their wind-worthiness and augment cooling. The resulting aero package helps the cars’ performance by limiting lift while on-track— to the tune of a 214-percent reduction in lift on the CT4-V Blackwing!

Enthusiasts will also savor that each of the 2022 Blackwing Cadillacs will come with an upgraded TREMEC six-speed manual transmission standard and an available 10-speed automatic transmission option. A LuK twin-disc clutch keeps all that torque moving without giving your left leg a workout. There is also active rev-matching and a “No-Lift Shift”, which allows the driver to change gears without letting off the gas pedal. Both Blackwings feature additional transmission and differential cooling.

Cadillac has designed both the CT4-V and CT5-V Blackwing as the most powerful Cadillacs ever, and they impart that moniker upon both cars only after proving their worthiness to carry such a mantle on their track-capable shoulders. Extensive validation for both the manual and automatic-equipped cars consisted of 12- and 24-hour track testing. Twenty-four-hour continuous track testing was done with the available automatic transmission, carbon fiber aero package, aluminum wheels, and available carbon-ceramic brake package. Twelve-hour continuous track testing on the standard manual transmission, carbon fiber aero package, aluminum wheels, and available carbon-ceramic brake package affords each variant to be proven track performers and easily the most powerful Cadillacs ever offered by the brand.

The exclusive V-Series Blackwing wheel designs enable an even larger rotor over the previous CTS-V, making the CT5-V Blackwing braking system the largest factory-installed brakes in Cadillac history. Available on the CT5-V Blackwing, the lightweight carbon-ceramic brake package significantly improves heat management, as well as greater resistance to wear under extreme conditions.

Blackwing Customers can use the Reserve Yours page at Cadillac.com to reserve one of the first 250 CT4-V Blackwings or 250 CT5-V Blackwings. Given their limited quantity and collectability, all V-Series Blackwings are VIN-sequenced by year, model, and transmission. Customers who make reservations through the Reserve Yours page will receive the available, high-performance steering wheel commemorated with a unique serialized plate. The plate will be etched with a five-digit portion of the vehicle’s VIN sequence.

Included in the purchase of a CT4-V Blackwing or CT5-V Blackwing, customers will receive a two-day experience at Cadillac’s V-Series Academy driving school at the Spring Mountain Motor Resort and Country Club in Pahrump, Nevada.
