C2 and C3 Corvettes share the same chassis designed decades ago in the early sixties. It’s proven to be a sturdy, reliable platform for more than half a million Corvettes of this era but as the years have crept by, the once novel IRS Corvette chassis and attendant running gear has been relegated to antique status and was partly the catalyst behind the ‘Vette restrod boom.
The steering systems on C2/C3 Corvettes are old school recirculating ball systems that are for all intents and purposes obsolete as well. Not to worry as Flaming River has a very cool, bolt in rack and pinion system kit that requires no welding, cutting or grinding.
The key to this upgrade is Flaming River’s patented cradle design that attaches to factory mounting points with little fuss and ties together and strengthens the front of frame for an added bonus. The kit utilizes the factory column and power steering pump.
If you’re restoring an old C2 or C3 and want to update the car without going crazy budget wise, utilizing the factory frame, updating the suspension and bolting in this Flaming River rack and pinion steering upgrade would go along way to bringing your old Shark into the 21st century. Here’s what you get in the package:
- All New Components
- Bolts into existing chassis and original mounting locations with no suspension modification
- More Than 6″ of Travel for Full Turning Radius!
- Stronger Rack Shaft
- Longer Cylinder and Overlapping Tube Design
- Lifetime Serviceability
