Howell Engine Developments Inc.: Making LS/LT Engine Swaps Simple

As the popularity of the LT powerplant rises and LS engines drop from production in new cars, the automotive enthusiast will need to decide what platform they want in their project. The LT has already shown us that it is the better setup over the LS, but the LT’s are also more expensive at the moment. No matter which powerplant is selected, Howell Engine Developments, Inc. can help you get the perfect wiring harness for your setup.

Howell has been helping with engine conversions for over 30 years and initially entered the market with the introduction of the 1988 Tuned Port Injected Corvette. Bill and Matt Howell started the company to support the hot rod and street rod industry as electronic fuel injection was becoming more popular. The end result is a company that does not make a one-size-fits-all product line. Howell’s customer support team is second to none and they know exactly what questions to ask to make sure their customers get precisely what they need for their current project. Their goal is to create a product that is simple to install and makes the conversion process simple. They are so confident in their products that they even offer a money-back guarantee.

If you’re in need a wiring harness for an LS or LT swap, then give them a call. They will help you through the process and create a custom harness to fit your specific needs. Their harnesses include a fuse block, check engine light, diagnostic connector, electric fan control, and the harnesses are a stand-alone design to control engine functions.

These setups are ideal for street rods, hot rods, pro-touring, off-road vehicles, sandrails, as well as street cars. All of the harnesses that Howell offers are constructed using GM Packard high-temperature wire, Packard connectors, terminals, and are assembled with a Packard crimping tool for the ultimate in reliability. Howell states, “With these components, you can expect GM 100,000-plus mile durability and function.”

Matt Howell, owner of Howell EFI, says, “the majority of our customers do basic swaps with engines that are not modified.”

However, this does not mean that the swap candidate needs to be in the stock configuration. Howell can supply the customer with an ECU or use a customer-supplied unit and make all of the software changes necessary to fire the engine up. If the customer decided they want to modify the engine, Howell leaves the ECU unlocked for them to do so. This means that the customer can have his tuner plug into the ECU with any compatible tuning program and make the necessary modifications needed for the aftermarket components.

Howell offers several different products for the LS, LT, TPI, MPI, LT1, as well as their own brand TBI system. You can even buy fuel system components, ECU’s, MAF sensors, and throttle bodies from them if you need them for your swap. Check out their website at howellefi.com for more information and if you have questions, they would love to hear from you.
