Martin Desormeaux’s Single Turbo Mustang GT From JPC Racing Runs 8s

mARTIN JPC 4For several years now, JPC Racing has known the recipe for building fast Mustangs. It doesn’t matter the engine or power adder combination, either. However, it’s not a stretch when it’s said JPC Racing has the turbo Coyote game on lock. JPC’s Justin Burcham has dominated recent turbo Coyote shootouts by a large margin. That’s not to say other shops across the country aren’t building fast turbo Coyote cars, it’s just that JPC has the combination down to a science.

Martin JPC 3For Martin Desormeaux, that reputation is exactly why he sent his 2014 Mustang GT to JPC Racing. After seeing Lance Rainey’s turbo Boss 302, which JPC built, that is the performance Desormeaux wanted to replicate. He set out to recreate the recipe with his own GT, adding a built engine to the car, a Powerglide with a PTC torque converter, and a JPC Powerglide-swap aluminum driveshaft.

He built up the car’s 8.8 rear with Strange Engineering’s finest parts. He added Viking double-adjutable shocks with TRZ Motorsports upper and lower control arms, and anti-roll bar. Up front, the car received a BMR Suspension tubular K-member, A-arms, and drag springs. For front suspension adjustability, the car uses Strange 12-way adjustable struts.

The combination is tuned using SCT software by JPC Racing's Kevin MacDonald.

The engine is basically stock with stronger rods and pistons, Trick Flow drop-in valve springs, a Boss intake, and Boss 302 exhaust cams. The turbo system is JPC’s race kit with the bumper exit exhaust using a Precision 7685 single turbo with a billet wheel, and ball-bearing design. The turbo system uses a Tial blow-off valve, and Precision twin 46mm wastegates.

Desormeaux put the car together, but was having an issue getting the computer to play nice, and accept all the modifications. That’s when it was shipped to JPC to get everything sorted out. After JPC put in work, Desormeaux raced the car at the NMRA MIR event in the turbo Coyote class. Even though Desormeaux ran an 8.70 156 mph on the car’s third pass, he was lined up against Justin Burcham in round one of eliminations, and that didn’t turn out in Desormeaux’s favor.

The car is at JPC right now for the installation of a race intercooler in the hopes of running deeper into the 8s.
