Mopar people rejoice! Flaming river is at it again. This time they’ve cooked up some sweet new steering wheels. They’re actually an expansion on Flaming River’s already extensive line of steering wheels.
But, Mopar aficionados will immediately recognize these wheels from their favorite early ’70s muscle cars. These wheels are a beautiful example of what a reproduction should be. They harken back to the classic “Tuff” wheels found in ’71-’73 Dodge Challenger and Plymouth ‘Cudas.
Flaming River’s version features hand-stitched Italian leather. Just like the original, they’re 14-inches in diameter, and sport a 3-spoke dish design. These modern renditions can currently be had in a satin finish. They’re CNC laser-cut from stainless steel, so the “Tuff” monicker isn’t just a name.
Flaming River told us they have a polished version in the works, and they should be available soon. Right now, you can get them in light tan, or black leather, so they’ll look perfect in whatever you’re working on.
The wheels utilize the original horn mount, and button assembly. They mount directly to the OEM E-body canister-style column. They even come with the horn cover!
Flaming River also offers a bunch of adapters in several sizes that will mount the “Tuff” wheel to most aftermarket and OEM columns, if you’re working on something tricky.
So, spend your weekends drinking beers and turning wrenches with friends, instead of sorting through piles of old junk at the swap meet. The wheels you find out there certainly aren’t wrapped in Italian leather, that’s for sure.
