PRI 2012: Ferrea Shows Off New Subaru BR-Z, GM LSX Valve Components

The new Subaru BR-Z and Scion FR-S sports cars have been a huge hit in the sport compact world, thanks in large part to the powerful 200 horsepower, 2..0L boxer flat-four powerplant that resides under the hood. Recognizing a market for such engines in the high performance enthusiast world, which will no doubt trickle into the sport compact drag racing scene, Ferrea Racing Components jumped on the new DOHC mill to deliver a package suited to the extreme modifications that these engines are sure to see.

Ferrea, one of the industry’s premier manufacturers of valvetrain components for all things performance — be it domestic or import — has launched a complete line of aftermarket valvetrain offerings for the BR-Z motor designed to help enthusiasts with their high-powered exploits and the use of nitrous oxide, turbocharging, and supercharging.

Said Ferrea’s Zeke Urrutia, “With this package, enthusiasts will be able to push 40 psi of boost with their power adders and still turn over 10,000 RPM.” That’s right folks, ten thousand RPM from a street car.

With this package, enthusiasts will be able to push 40 psi of boost with their power adders and still turn over 10,000 RPM.

The BR-Z package includes Competition Plus Series valves (perfect for turbo and nitrous applications) or 6000 Series valves (great for N/A applications), along with the option for dual or single Pac Alloy material valve springs, highly polished military-spec titanium and fully heat treated Tool steel retainers, CNC finished and blank oxide steel spring seat locators, copper-bronze intake and exhaust valves, and high-temp rubber valve seats.

On the domestic side, Ferrea also has here at PRI their new valves designed for the GM LSX-DR 11-degree, full-race cylinder head. The new valve package features high-temp, special alloy stainless construction exhaust valves, and military-spec titanium intake valves. Both are 5/16-inch stem size. The intake valves feature a special CRN coating that serves as barrier for good wear, stress, and heat. “This material works exceptionally well with a lot of seat and guide materials,” explained Urrutia.
