The radial tire revolution has been in full swing for several years now, and as the popularity of the racing has grown, so has the cost to race. Being able to run a top-flight team in any heads-up class isn’t cheap, so the larger events have stepped up their payouts in purse money dramatically. The Outlaw Street Car Reunion (OSCR) series is now in its fourth year at Memphis International Raceway, and promoter Tyler Crossnoe is paying out some serious cash to all the classes at the event. You’ll be able to see all the checks handed out at the OSCR IV this march right here on SpeedVideo.com.
Crossnoe and his team at Southern Speed Productions have grown the OSCR races into one of the biggest radial tire events of the year each season. With the OSCR IV race, the goal was to give back to the racers as much as possible. These bigger payouts reward racers for making the trip to the event and it brings the level of competition up significantly; that level of racing helps grow the car count and brings the fans in because they know they’re in for a great show.
“Racers expect to have good purses at the bigger and better events, as they should. Expenses are monumental when running this caliber of racing operation and we try to keep in mind that there is only one winner to try and spread the purse out as best we can while still rewarding the event champion with a nice chunk of change,” Crossnoe explains.
In the headlining class of Radial vs The world the winner will take home a cool $20,000, while in X275, racers can bring home a nice $10,000 payday. At the OSCR IV even the index racers get bigger purses, with $5,000 going to the winner of the 6.00 and the 7.00 categories. “We’re ecstatic to bring more money to the table for all of our great racers,” Crossnoe says.
The big payouts will be handed out to the OSCR IV champions March 22-26, so make sure this event is marked on your calendar now. For those who can’t make it to the event SpeedVideo.com will be broadcasting it live right here thanks to presenting sponsor Comp Cams, and additional sponsors TCI, Edelbrock, Fueltech, Mickey Thompson, Scat Crankshafts, Driven Racing Oils, QA1, PRW, and Neal Chance Racing Converters.
