We’ve seen some LS powered from the factory cars with LS swaps in the past. Like one of our project cars, Project Lucky 13 – which is a LS7 powered ’13 Camaro SS built for road racing. SLP however, went big with its LS swapped Camaro. When the Camaro originally came from the factory with a 6.2 liter LS3 V8, SLP recognized the power potential of the LS3 by slapping on one of its SLP TVS2300 superchargers. The Camaro put down an impressive 650 horsepower to the crank, making for about 550+ horsepower to the wheels. While SLP was impressed with the power made using the LS3, they decided to set the engine aside for something with a little more bite to it.

SLP swapped the factory LS3 out in favor of a LSX376-B15 crate engine from Chevrolet Performance. That crate engine was designed for a supercharged or turbocharged application, featuring a completely forged rotating assembly which Chevrolet says can handle up to 15 pounds of boost. The LSX block is cast-iron with the crankshaft being forged steel, the rods are forged powered metal, and the pistons are forged aluminum. With 6-bolt cylinder heads, a LS7 camshaft, and a 9.0:1 compression ratio, the engine alone makes 450 horsepower at 5900 rpm.

“We were running 9 psi before.” explains SLP Powertrain Development Manager, Greg Banish. “We were producing 650 horsepower. We want to see how much power we can get out of this combination on pump gas, keeping durability in mind.” In the original source, SLP commented that they plan to start at 9 pounds of boost, then test smaller pulleys to find the right combination the new engine can handle. No dyno numbers yet, but rest assured we’ll be following this project closely.
