Some would say I’m an information junkie. I am always researching various subjects, wanting to make sure I understand the things that interest me. One of those ways I get information is through company-sent newsletters. You know, those weekly emails you get from those companies whom you have expressed an interest? They typically show different specials being offered on certain products, and sometimes, they announce cool stuff that is happening. That’s why, when I got my Speedway Motors newsletter that screamed “Allow us to introduce Project Chevelle,” my interest was piqued.

I learned that the project has already begun, and the foundation is a nearly all-original 1972 Chevelle Malibu. It came from the factory with a 307 cubic-inch engine, a three-speed manual transmission, and sans air conditioning and power steering.

Who doesn’t like a Chevelle, and this one makes a great starting point. The newsletter went on to discuss how the guys within Speedway Motors would be tackling the project by upgrading the wheels and tires, brakes, headers and exhaust, and much more. It sounds like this is going to be simple, no-nonsense cruiser that will look great and deliver miles of enjoyment.

Yes, that is the original 307ci engine that came in the Chevelle from the factory. The premise of the project is to build a fun driver, and although small in cubes, the engine will still make the car enjoyable to drive.
