Street Outlaws, Gas Monkey Garage Stars Face Off In “Mega Race”

As it was revealed publicly on Monday night’s episode of Fast ’N Loud on the Discovery Channel, Richard Rawlings and the Gas Monkey Garage crew will be facing off with their fellow Discovery mates from Street Outlaws in a head-to-head battle that will air in a few weeks (the race has already been filmed and will premiere on March 27th).

Rawlings and Street Outlaws’ main-man Justin “Big Chief” Shearer called one another out for a grudge race to be held at California’s Auto Club Dragway between a pair of cars that didn’t even exist a few weeks ago. Rawlings and company, renowned for their custom car builds, went all-hands-on-deck to construct an impressive Dodge Challenger-bodied, tube chassis big-tire car with a very legit supercharged Brad Anderson Hemi between the fenders. Gas Monkey-sponsored NHRA Pro Stock driver Alex Laughlin will drive the car, and if you look closely, you’ll notice blown doorslammer icon Frankie Taylor in the Gas Monkey entourage, perhaps helping turn the knobs on the obnoxious engine in the Challenger.

Shearer, for his part, assembled — reportedly in just eight days time — an all-new steel-bodied Pontiac GTO at Midwest Street Cars for the matchup that very much follows in the footsteps of his famed “Crow” LeMans. Utilizing virtually only the roof and quarters of a 1970 GTO, Shearer, Shawn “Murder Nova” Ellington, chassis man Jeff Lutz, and the Midwest Street Cars team built the backhalf, stock wheelbase runner that features the very same Butler-built, twin-turbo, 482 cubic inch Pontiac mill utilized in the original “Crow” and in the “CrowMod”.

It's the Mega Race

Richard bit off more than he can chew.

Former Gas Monkey star Aaron Kaufman and Street Outlaws’ FarmTruck and AZN will also be taking part in the Mega Race, in what’s being called a skills challenge, combining autocross and a tug-of-war. For the event, Kaufman has assembled an LS-powered 1995 BMW M3, while the Street Outlaws’ comedic duo will have an early model Trans Am with distinct styling cues borrowed from the familiar FarmTruck.
