Classic Mopar muscle cars weren’t designed to handle very well, but that problem can be solved thanks to companies like Art Morrison Enterprises (AME). 1966-1970 B-body owners can modernize their rides with AME’s new bolt-on K-member. This K-member upgrades the B-body’s handling and improves its ride instantly.
The team at AME designed this K-member so the B-body’s iconic looks wouldn’t be compromised, but at the same time, it would improve the vehicle’s suspension geometry. The goal was to make the B-body handle better, ride nicer, and have more stability at high speed.
AME’s President Matt Jones talks about what went into developing this new K-member.
“We borrowed the suspension geometry from our proven Sport C6 suspension, making minor adjustments to work with the B-body’s fixed upper control arm location. With these modifications, we’re able to utilize a C6 Corvette-style forged knuckle assembly that is significantly taller than other designs. Requiring a minimum 18” wheel, the height of this knuckle provides numerous geometry benefits – namely the lateral roll center migration is minimal, while the negative camber gain is aggressive enough for high-performance driving and autocross.”
The new K-member will work with the modern Hemi engine platform by keeping the mill in the stock engine location. The K-member features a three-position adjustable hollow sway bar with adjustable end links. This was done to eliminate preload, while accommodating high static negative camber angles for low treadwear tires that provide more grip.
The K-member also features:
- Tall forged aluminum steering knuckle, with bolt-on unit bearing, allows for superior camber gain and roll center migration.
- High strength forged steering arms.
- Custom-valved 17.5:1 ratio steering rack provides a modern steering feel and responsiveness.
- TIG welded and CNC machined DOM control arms constructed with high accuracy CNC machined tooling.
- AME-tuned coilover shocks.
- Stainless steel brake lines are available.
