The addition of the 247 horsepower, EcoBoost-powered Ford Focus ST to the Blue Oval lineup finally gave Ford a hot hatch to compete with sport compacts from Japan and Europe. The Focus ST is a performance bargain that leaves plenty of money for other aftermarket modifications to further increase the 2.0 liter turbo four cylinder engine’s power.
Don’t just take our word for it though; watch this “Stage 3” Focus ST tackle the Dynojet and put an impressive 255 horsepower and 330 ft-lbs of torque down at the wheels. That’s a big power bump, and then some.
We say that because stock, the Focus ST puts about 220 horsepower (give or take a few ponies) down at the wheels. That’s quite respectable, and due mostly to the “overboost” feature which temporarily raises engine output when you need it most. The 2.0 liter EcoBoost engine also responds remarkably well to aftermarket mods, especially in the torque department.
The Stage 3 package for this Focus ST included a Cobb intake, front-mount intercooler, a Stage 3 V105 tune, as well as a catted downpipe and a Magnaflow 2.5-inch catback exhaust. While a bigger exhaust, no catalytic converter, and custom tune could produce even better results, this package still put 255 horsepower and a whopping 330 ft-lbs of torque to the wheels. That’s nothing to sneeze at, and this is all on a stock turbo. The sky’s the limit for the 2.0 EcoBoost engine, that much seems sure. We continue to see new products for this car released on a regular basis, and are sure this will be one of the hot cars in booths at the SEMA show coming up in just a few weeks.
