There’s no denying that drag racing is a potentially dangerous sport, which is probably exactly why most of us are drawn to it. But street racing – that’s a whole ‘nother story. Not only are you running the same risks that you do in normal drag racing, but you’re also on public roads with sometimes hundreds of spectators around without any safety barriers or resemblance of orderly conduct.
There’s no rescue ambulance, there’s always the chance of an oncoming car, and 9.9 times out of ten the guys behind the wheel aren’t even concerned about what might go wrong. It might be fun, but it’s not exactly legal, nor does it provide the safest environment in which to push our cars to the limits.
But we shamefully admit that it does make for good entertainment when something potentially harmful goes wrong. Like the 4th-gen LS-powered Camaro featured in the above video (NSFW Language) loses its right-side rear wheel after a hard launch. As far as we know no one was injured, but the “film crew” made it clear that they “Got that sh– on camera too, yo!” We were forced to chuckle when we heard that.
In all seriousness we were expecting the Camaro to win this bout, partly because he was racing an old (but yet turbocharged) BMW M3, but mostly because we’re a little biased. All joking aside, we’re glad that nobody (that we know of) was hurt during the making of this video, and we are required to tell you that you should keep it at the track, and street racing is bad. Maybe this will at least remind spectators to take a few big, big steps back away from the starting line.
