Human beings are amazingly versatile, as our the vehicles we drive. Humans have adapted to every climate known on Earth, and we’ve modified our vehicles to get us there too. We’ve even taken our motorsports to the extreme, with many events taking place in snow or off-road. Sometimes though, just staying on the road is an accomplishment all its own.
Griggs Racing took their GR40TT Mustang to the Spectre Performance 341 Challenge in the Nevada desert last month, and this is a video of that race from the driver’s seat.
The Spectre Performance 341 Challenge is actually a rehashing of an event from 2002. The 341 Challenge takes place on Highway 341 in Nevada, in Virginia City. The race challenges driving enthusiasts to cover 5.2 miles in under 3 minutes and 41 seconds. Doesn’t sound too hard, right? Well the course includes 22 turns, and an elevation increase of over 1,200 feet. Doesn’t sound so easy now, does it?
It is a tall order, and just a handful of cars managed to make it into the 341 club. Piloting the GR40TT Mustang for Griggs Racing was Guy Cunningham, who was up to the challenge. With its supercharged 4.6 liter V6 engine making almost 550 horsepower, the GR40TT Mustang had plenty of ponies for the challenge too. The suspension and brake upgrades certainly helped too. The video shows just how many hairpin turns there are on this course, and just how few guardrails there are to keep the cars on track. Enjoy the growling V8 and whining supercharger in this video.
