When is a car more than a car? That is the question for many of us gearheads, grease monkeys, wrenchers, and speed freaks. At what point does your car become more than just a way to get around? Every car and every story is different, but it doesn’t matter whether it is a beater or a Bentley; cars can be so much more than we ever imagined.

This video from GM follows the saga of the Younger family as they tried to track down the father’s 1965 Chevy Impala SS. It’s a heartwarming story of a family coming together over a car they thought they had lost forever.

In 1965, Herb Younger purchase a ‘65 Impala SS, and he held on to it for 20 years until the mid 80’s. Times were tough, and Herb was forced to sell the Impala to pay for his sons’ education. The two sons went on to private school, and many years later they had the idea to try and track down their father’s beloved Impala. So Jared and Derek embarked on a years-long search, always seeming to be two steps behind the car itself.

They came so close several times, but then discovered that the car had been sold to some Canadians, who had already trailiered it over the border. The sons gave up, but one last online search turned up the car. It took them over five years to find and buy the car. They then surprised their father with the car, calling on Chevy to document his reaction.

It is a beautiful story of sons repaying their father, and a family coming together over something as simple and as cool as an old school Chevy.
