High performance cars, hill climbing and a cool Old West town make for a pretty interesting scenario and it is one that will play out this year at the 2011 Spectre 341 Challenge. June 17-19, 2011, will see supercars, muscle cars and imports gather in Virginia City, NV, to take on a 5.2-mile, 22 turn stretch of mountain road.

For those taking the challenge, oncoming traffic and speed enforcement will be conveniently absent. After all, there will be enough excitement from the 1,216-foot rise in elevation, steep drop-offs and absence of guardrails. “This is one of the only events in the world where a driver can show up with a street car and truly test the vehicle and themselves in a real-world environment,” explained Spectre Performance founder Amir Rosenbaum.

Spectre Performance manufactures cold air intake kits for late model vehicles, as well as classic muscle cars. The inaugural event, held last year, was successful attracting in world-famous drivers and high-profile media coverage. Rosenbaum is familiar with the course, which was run as the Virginia City Hill Climb from 1972 through 2002. He also holds the all-time record for the course, at 3 minutes, 10 seconds.

While the event has its share of hardcore racing, it is also a family-oriented get together and there’s even more emphasis on that side for 2011.
