Big power and a lack of weight can make for a wild ride at the drag strip, and that’s exactly the ingredients that Patrick Amery’s car brings to the table. The Factory 5 GTM that Amery pilots is a homebuilt supercar that’s packing some serious boosted horsepower. And with it, the car has single-digit potential written all over it with just a little more tweaking.

The Factory 5 GTM is a kit car that any gearhead can build in his or her garage, and can be configured in several different ways with the running gear from a C5 Corvette. The ultra-light car has amazing balance and can be used as a corner-carving track car, or a street-driven bruiser that will put a high-end Italian sports car in its place at the drop of a hat.

Amery has equipped his GTM with something a bit more than the standard LSX engine, though, as he’s added a pair of turbochargers that help the engine produce over 850 horsepower to the tires on relatively low boost. A pricey Ricardo gearbox from the Ford GT and modified rear axles back the boosted powerplant and take the beating that Amery hands out. The power to weight ratio of this car is just sick, with it tipping the scales at just 2,802 pounds with Amery strapped in.

Check out the footage from High Tech Corvette that shows the GTM going through some shakedown passes at the Royal Purple Raceway in Houston and tearing up some parts. Even with the belly pan trying to remove itself from the car, a stout 10.70 at 138 mph flashed on the scoreboards after a sluggish 1.8-second 60-foot time. This car will be punching into the nines after Amery gets some more seat time and figures out how to attack the front half, no question.
